Recently I meet a successful businesswoman named Susan in one of the networking events. She asked me, “What are you passionate about?” I told her I am passionate about helping innocent women and children of war. She looked at me in a strange way and she said why? I replied because, It is a MIRACLE that I am alive today. I understand what it means to be a CHILD, a TEENAGER and YOUNG WOMAN living in a war with no HOPE or opportunities.
I could tell she wanted me to continue telling her about my experiences and why I feel it is a miracle I am alive. So, I shared with her a tidbit of my story. I told her, as you know, I am the founder of Empowering Souls International, LLC and the author of my biography Tears of Hope, my true life story of a Middle Eastern Christian girl, growing up in the 1975 Lebanese Civil War. I was 12 years old when a bomb killed my older brother Robert right in front of me. In the blink of an eye, my family lost everything and we became homeless.
I was faced with enormous obstacles and many challenges. Due to my severe dyslexia and the war, I was forced to leave school at the 4th grade level. Left with no opportunity or hope, I was pushed into an early marriage. The ceremony took place only three days after my 14th birthday. At age 15, I became the mother of a beautiful girl. I was still a teenager when I became a single mom, abandoned, with no education, skills or money. It was up to me to figure out how to feed my daughter while dealing with the war and the culture’s belief system.
My daughter became the “WHY” that kept me going day after day. I lived in the war zone for 13 years, escaped death 3 times and lost many close family members. The only thing I did not lose was my faith in God.
I can see that Susan definitely wanted me to continue.“She asked me what happened after all that “.
I continued sharing bit of my story. She was listening very closely. Well in 1988, I had the opportunity to come to the United States to start a new life. Soon after I arrived, I was told to go back to my country because “You are not going to make it here.” In my heart, I knew I had my “WHY” and my faith in God. It was an absolute MIRACLE that my daughter and I were able to stay in the United States.
After years of persistence and determination, I became a business woman. However that wasn’t satisfying to my soul. In my heart, I knew that my life was saved many times for a reason.
“Did you go back-to-school?” asked Susan. I replied “No I did not”.
“How did you write your book when you have only a fourth-grade education?
I responded…When you’re passionate about something you will find a way. As long as you have your “WHY” the “HOW” will appear. When you truly understand that, you will start to experience MIRACLES, and see things happening and some type of force driving you toward living your purpose. I knew that those who read my book would benefit from the lessons, wisdom, and insights I had learned through my journey. More than anything I wanted to be a ROLE MODEL for young GIRLS, TEENAGERS and YOUNG WOMEN, giving them HOPE and helping them see LIGHT through darkness, and that was my “WHY”
Then she asked me.“Besides your book, how are you making a difference?”
I am giving 75% of the profits from each “Tears of Hope” book, E-book or audio book sold through my WEBSITE or from any of my SPEAKING events, of which 50% goes to help me with my mission of building a GLOBAL online/off-line non-political COMMUNITY that reaches out to innocent women and children of war around the world, giving them Emotional and Mental support and empowering them to find Peace in their Hearts and Mind, letting them know that someone is FIGHTING FOR THEIR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS AND DIGNITY!
The rest of the 25% and 100% of profits from the “Rise Above” song performed by Stephanie Thompson, based on my story and message go to non-profit organizations that helps Innocent Women and Children of war.
Then,“she asked me how can I help, I don’t have time to run my own life?”
I looked at her and told her. You don’t have to carry the whole world on your shoulders to make a difference in someone’s life. If everyone is going to quit their jobs or stop running their businesses in order to make a difference everything will stop.
All you have to do is support the people who are dedicating their lives to do so and let them do the job for you.
That’s how you can make a DIFFERENCE while doing what you meant to do in your day-to-day life!
